Most back pain treatments are built around one goal: quieting the signal. A tablet blocks the pain message for a few hours. A heat patch distracts the nerve endings. A massage relaxes the muscle around the problem. All of them work, and all of them stop working the moment they wear off.

- Painkillers act on how pain is perceived, not on the inflammation causing it, and long term use carries its own costs.
- Physiotherapy builds support around the area, which helps, but it is slow and depends on repeating the work for months.
- Heat, gels and patches reach the surface. The inflammation is usually deeper than they go.
- Rest reduces load, but tissue that is not stimulated to repair simply stays as it is.

Low-level laser therapy, or LLLT, directs light of a specific wavelength through the skin and into the tissue underneath. It is non-thermal, non-invasive and drug free.
Two things happen at the same time. The treated area experiences a reduction in the sensation of pain. And at the cellular level, the light supports the body's own repair processes in the tissue where the inflammation actually sits. It addresses the symptom and the source in the same session.

Three independent bodies, none of them connected to any manufacturer, have examined low-level laser therapy and published their conclusions.
American College of Physicians
The ACP's 2017 clinical practice guideline for low back pain lists low-level laser therapy among the non-pharmacologic treatments for chronic low back pain, in a guideline that recommends starting with non-drug treatment before medication.

A 2009 review in The Lancet reported that LLLT reduced pain immediately after treatment in acute neck pain, and for up to 22 weeks after treatment ended in patients with chronic neck pain.

At Beneficência Portuguesa Hospital in São Paulo, patients recovering from back surgery who received laser treatment showed lower pain levels, reduced temperature at the surgical site, less drainage and faster healing than the control group. Statistical significance for pain was p<0.001.
At Sapienza University in Rome, a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 90 patients found pain reduction from the active laser was statistically significant against a placebo laser, and no different from a standard pain medication group.
